Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an Assistant Credit Reviewer to join our Internal Audit Department Credit Review (IADCR) team.
This role supports the Internal Audit Department (IAD) in providing assurance to management that the grading applied to the obligors reviewed is appropriate and Bank procedures have been followed. It also assists IADCR in administrative tasks including data management and reporting.
- Some experience in credit analysis and management within major UK or international banks is desirable.
- Attention to detail is necessary for reviewing and documenting work, interpreting findings, and identifying trends.
- Proficiency in IT with a data-driven approach is required.
- Good verbal and written communication skills are essential for efficiently completing reviews, preparing reports, documenting findings, and liaising with key stakeholders and IADCR management.
Business Area
The objective of Internal Audit Department Credit Review (IADCR) Group is to provide reasonable assurance over the credit grading process and effective management of credit risk operating within SMBC BI/SMBC EMEA Region. IADCR review a risk-based sample of the credit monitoring applications which were conducted by Front Office (FO) and approved by Credit Dept. (CD) as IADCR is part of the Bank’s Audit Department and 3rd Line of Defence (3LoD). IADCR activities include continuous review of approved credit applications, credit review of assets booked in specific branches, review of the Bank’s provisions. IADCR covers all Bank products including project finance, leveraged finance, aviation and shipping.
Position Description
The role supports the wider IADCR Team in providing assurance to management that the grading applied to each entity or obligor is appropriate and Bank procedures have been followed. This is achieved through Continuous and Branch Credit Reviews. Additionally, the role supports administrative tasks such as production/management of data, reporting, scheduling and new joiner onboarding.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct a review of approved credit applications to determine, based on the agreed sampling methodology, whether applications will require a more detailed review (Full File Reviews ‘FFRs’).
- Conduct a Full File Review of assigned credit applications to ensure accuracy of the Obligor and Facility Grades as well as Borrower’s Category (such as substandard / default).
- Discuss issues found and raise questions with FO person in charge when clarifications are required to complete the credit reviews.
- Discuss and agree with the Credit Review Partner observations / recommendations that need to be raised.
- Submit reviews to Credit Review Partner for approval including drafting recommendations and observations.
- Undertake the follow-up and closure of any recommendations raised.
- Conduct review of provisions.
- Complete any other administrative / ad-hoc tasks assigned by Credit Review Partner including onboarding new joiners (access requests etc), regular reconciliation of folders, findings issued, production of data, scheduling of meetings, meeting minutes.
Challenges
- The role will require knowledge of credit related rules and procedures which are specific to the Bank.
- Negotiating and influencing skills are expected to be developed to interact with FO/CD.
