Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Senior Quantitative Risk Analyst / VP for our Modelling team within the Risk Management Department.
The role reports to the Head of Modelling Group, working from our office at 100 Liverpool Street, London. The successful candidate will be responsible for development, ownership, and maintenance of internal and vendor models used for Credit Risk, Counterparty Risk and Concentration Risk. The role also provides significant exposure to the Bank's ICAAP, ICARA, Reverse Stress Test, and other strategic initiatives.
Successful candidates will be extremely proactive, detail oriented, have strong logical reasoning & problem solving skills. It is highly desirable for the candiate to be able to liaise with senior management / regulators on complex modelling and capital related topics. Solid experience in Credit Risk Analytics within Financial Services firms, knowledge of MS Excel / Access and SQL / Python / R programming skills will be essential to be successful in this role.
Business Area
The role sits within the Modelling vertical of Credit Portfolio, Policy & Modelling Group of Risk Management Department (RMD) at SMBC BI. This vertical is responsible for the quantification of Credit, Operational, Market, Counterparty, Liquidity and Climate Change risks for both internal and regulatory purposes and the development of Model Risk Management Framework for SMBC BI and EMEA region. The role holder has the primary responsibility to support the development of Credit Risk related Models as well as Risk Tolerances and maintain related documents to regulatory and audit standard.
Position Description
Purpose of the Job
- Responsible for developing, documenting, and monitoring Credit Risk models for various SMBC entities within EMEA region, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal policy requirements.
- Proactively support and take initiative on activities supporting Regulatory and Internal Capital Assessments such as ICAAP, ICARA and other initiatives
- Provide support and participate in developing innovative solutions in climate risk modelling and scenario analysis exercise.
- Present results and analyses to a wide range of audience, including but not limited to Senior Management, Risk Committees and the Board of Directors on a regular basis.
- Manage and provide training to junior/new staff in the department.
Facts / Scale
- The Modelling Team comprises 7 employees and there is no direct report to the role holder.
- Interaction with Senior Management, Risk committees, Internal & External Auditors, and Regulators.
- Work in a multi-cultural team and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
Acountabilities & Responsibilities
- Own, monitor and maintain various internal and vendor models capturing Credit Risk, Counterparty Risk and Concentration Risk, support other team members in regular upkeep of other models.
- Produce portfolio analytics covering capital contribution for both Economic Capital and Regulatory Capital.
- Support, enhance, and develop stress testing calculation for Pillar 2B, Reverse Stress Test, various Strategic initiatives, and other ad-hoc purposes.
- Develop innovative solutions to model Climate risk and quantify its impact to the bank’s portfolio and be a key contributor to enhance the current scenario analysis methodology.
- Support the team’s compliance with the Model Risk Management framework and handle challenges during the independent model validation exercise.
- Participate on various ICAAP/ICARA workflows including risk tolerance set up, scenario development, stress testing calculation, and/or as instructed by management
- Participate in the production of stress testing methodologies / results / documentation for the SMBC BI and other EMEA entities; ensure existing methodologies are appropriate and up to date; and ensure documentation is accurate and comply with the latest regulatory and audit requirements
- Actively participate in producing appropriate stress scenarios, stressed parameters and models for SMBC BI’s capital planning within the ICAAP framework
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Experience in credit risk analytics or quantitative research within financial services.
- Proven problem-solving skills using logical reasoning and analytical methods
- Working knowledge of programming language (R, SAS, Python etc.)
- Excellent Excel and Access Skills
- BSc/MSc Degree in a quantitative field (Finance, Mathematics, Economics, Engineering etc.
