Role Summary
The Analytics Governance Analyst role is an exciting opportunity for someone who has both a passion for Governance and Data. This role will help to is to ensure that Key Data Outputs (KDOs) within SMBC (including all of our important metrics, reports, dashboards and models) can be catalogued and comply with legal requirements, regulatory standards and best practices.
This role will need to understand Analytics Governance or End User Computing (EUC)) Reporting Governance and the standards that are relevant. They will be involved in helping to establish our Analytics Governance Framework and will play a key role in ensuring the standards that this framework sets out are adhered to. This Framework will align with our existing Data Governance Framework and extend this to the development, maintenance, distribution and change management processes associated with our KDOs. It will also set out guidance for compliance with BCBS 239 principles. This role will require working with stakeholders across all functions in EMEA to ensure KDOs can be catalogued and assessed against relevant criteria and a plan agreed for any remediation activities. They will also need to engage with colleagues from other SMBC regions. Strong stakeholder management and business partnering are key for this role.

Business Area
The EMEA Data Office was established in October 2021. It sits within EMEA Operations in the Operations Planning Department (OPPD), covering all EMEA entities (including Securities and Banking subsidiaries) and all datasets. The Data Office is responsible for defining and implementing the EMEA Data Strategy, building out its data management capabilities, and focusing on how we exploit data more effectively and innovatively across SMBC.
We have been formed to really drive data-led transformation through the bank. As part of this work, the EMEA Data Office has established a new framework which encompasses cultural, behavioural, procedural, and system transformation to deliver the new strategy. This initially focused on good governance through improved Data Architecture, Data Management and Data Quality, but as the foundations are established, we are focusing more on how we can use Data to drive new ways of working and improved business outcomes.
We are at the start of a multi-year programme to ensure compliance with BCBS239 standards. This work covers several Technology and Data Workstreams and is time critical given SMBC EMEA will be subject to ECB Onboarding within the next 2-3 years. |
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
• Identify and classify our Key Data Outputs (KDOs) across all EMEA departments.
• Agree remediation activities with KDO owners and track remediation milestones.
• Enable departments to clearly identify Key Metrics and challenge existing understanding of metrics across EMEA.
• Establish and maintain a Catalogue of Key Data Outputs working with KDO Owners to capture required metadata.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including BCBS239, and industry best practices.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure effective adherence to analytics governance, working across all levels from Associates to General Managers.
• Knowledge in the use of data governance, data quality, metadata, profiling, analysis, and data management tools.
• Participates in the various data governance and program forums to advance the robustness of the Bank-wide data governance framework
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:
• Experience related to Analytics Governance or EUC Reporting Governance, for other organisations.
• Experience working with governance frameworks supporting BCBS239 principles. Experience of European Central Bank (ECB) onboarding would be a plus.
• Experience in using and configuring cataloguing tools, such as Collibra.
• Experience of working in the financial services industry and knowledge of data related regulatory requirements for financial service sector.
• Proven ability to be a team player, while retaining the ability to work independently with little supervision.
• An outstanding problem solver who is has an analytical mindset, is inquisitive and excellent with technology.
• Solid understanding of the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) as relevant to analytics covering the full project lifecycle e.g.: requirements gathering, design approvals, development, testing, documentation requirements and release processes.
• Working knowledge and understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata, profiling, analysis, and data management tools and practices.
• Analytically minded with the enthusiasm to problem solve and be able to implement and deliver solutions.
• Confident stakeholder engagement skills to communicate within working groups.
• An understanding of Physical, Logical, and Business Data Models.
• Understanding of metadata and its importance in cataloguing data outputs for easy access and retrieval.
Desirable:
• Experience of working in an organisation that has enabled well governed and controlled self-serve analytics at an enterprise level.
• Knowledge of emerging trends and issues within the Data Analytics landscape.
• Experience of designing, developing, maintaining and supporting analytics products using tools like Alteryx, Power Query, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Apps and Tableau
• Solid understanding of testing approaches and experience of applying appropriate testing methodologies to quality assure development and delivery of data analytics products.
• Experience working with cloud environments & components (e.g., on Google Cloud Platform or equivalent).
• Knowledge of emerging trends and issues within the Data Management landscape
• Exposure to Data Engineering / Data Science
