Role Summary

Is the next step in your career atSMBC Group EMEA? Were looking for an Assistant Vice President, Account Manager for our Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management team in London, which sits within Specilaised Products Department (SPD). 

 

The role is to ensure the effective, proactive management of the European Leveraged Finance Portfolio including i) managing the associated credit risks, ii) ensuring timely reporting of portfolio data to key stakeholders and iii) working across the Portfolio Management and Origination teams in the various locations, to help to identify / develop new business opportunities arising from the portfolio.  

  

The Role:

  • The primary objective is to proactively manage a portfolio of European Leveraged Finance Borrowers, which requires in depth credit/financial/risk analysis to be undertaken and presented both within SPD and to our dedciated Leveraged Finance Credit Department.  
  • Under the guidance and support of the VPs, Directors, and Team Leader, and working with Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management colleagues across the various locations (Dublin, Frankfurt, London & Paris) the role also involves the proactive development of client / borrower relationships to identify and develop new business opportunities arising from the portfolio.
  • Requires ongoing / close interaction with and reporting to key stakeholders, particularly Credit Department, SPD Management, OAD (Back Office) and Middle Office. 

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Knowledge and understanding of European Leveraged Finance market including trends and developments.
  • Strong credit risk analysis skills gained through exposure to European Leveraged Finance transactions including i) an ability to analyse / interpret Financial Statements, Financial Due Diligence, forward looking financial data (Budgets. Forecasts, Projections etc.) and other financial information and ii) Cash Flow modelling skills with sound knowledge for Excel   
  • A Team Player with strong Communication & Organisational Skills - with both internal and external stakeholders - and both written and verbal - to enable clear and concise written and verbal presentation of European Leveraged Finance transactions with an ability to manage multiple workstreams and adhere to deadlines.

Business Area

This role sits within the European Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management Team (Origination Group 2 (“OG2”)) of Specialised Products Department where the OG2 team of 45 across Dublin, Frankfurt, London & Paris, manage SPD’s c$9.2Bn+ portfolio of c185+ European Leveraged Loans.

 

This role is located in London, and is part of the overall Leveraged Finance team that consists of ca120 people in total across London, Dublin, Frankfurt and Paris (75 Origination & 45 Portfolio Management). This role will report into a Director, the Team Leader and Group Head of the Leveraged Finance Portfolio Management Team.  

 

Position Description

Proactively manage a portfolio of Broadly Syndicated (Large Cap) European Leveraged Loans with on balance sheet and/or off balance sheet (JVCo Programme related) exposures including: i) ongoing analysis of a Borrower’s financial performance; ii) the preparation of required Monitoring Reports, iii) regular reporting to Line Manager, Group Head, SPD Management and Credit Department on Borrower’s performance; iv) assigning / reviewing Borrower internal ratings at least annually; and v) analysis / interpretation of Bank’s Cash Flow Model.   

 

Responsibility for developing / maintaining relationships with Company Management Teams through working closely with the Team Leader and VPs / Directors on the team to: i) ensure the team are up to date with developments at the Company, ii) to drive new business opportunities from the portfolio, and iii) to provide information to clients on SMFG products and services, including investment products.  

 

Ongoing liaison with Origination & Sponsor Coverage team on Portfolio Origination opportunities (linking in to the above) to drive new business opportunities arising from the portfolio. 

 

Conducting in depth financial / credit analysis of transactions and the preparation of Credit submissions for: i) new transactions; ii) amendments / waivers on existing allocated portfolio accounts; and iii) add-on / re-financing opportunities on existing allocated portfolio accounts.

 

Liaison with all Back and Middle Office teams (Limit Control, Loans Admin, Static Data, KYC etc) to ensure satisfaction of all internal booking and operational requirements necessary to successfully book existing and new loan transactions. Building appropriate internal networks as required
