Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Executive Director for our Global Markets Department, Credit Group to join our team. 
This role's responsibility is to support the Head of Credit Sales, Head of Credit Trading, and Head of International Credit in developing and executing the business plan for EMEA Credit Sales & Trading along with strong alliance with NY Credit Sales & Trading. The role focuses on delivering the strategic priorities of the International Credit Trading strategy and the broader International Sales & Trading Mid Term Plan.
It should own the desk-level roadmap and revenue projections that translates the International Credit Trading strategy into actionable delivery plans to enable driving strategic initiatives focused on building a scalable, competitive, and profitable EMEA credit franchise. 
The role will require you to have great skill, experience, and expertise around mainly three listed below.


1. Growth & Product Strategic Business Planning and Execution

3. Cross Regional & Cross Functional Collaboration and Change Management

Business Area

Fixed Income has been identified as a key growth area for SMBC Nikko globally. Credit Sales & Trading is a core offering within Fixed Income both in EMEA and globally. It is closely aligned to our lending and origination activities in SMBC BI including DCM. 
S&T Vertical extends EMEA wide and especially in Credit space, there is a strong partnership with SMFG's US entity. Executive Director Credit Business Manager is expected to build strong relationship and conduct seamless coordination cross-boarder and with relevant groups and departments within SMBC BI.

Position Description

The Business Manager for EMEA Credit Sales & Trading will support Head of Sales and Head of Trading in London, as well as the Head of International Credit in New York, to execute the growth strategy for SMBC’s EMEA Credit franchise. The business is entering a major expansion phase, aiming to broaden its product set, enhance technology and electronic trading, and deepen client engagement across the region. The role is central to coordinating these initiatives, ensuring the business has the infrastructure, tools, and reporting required to scale effectively.

A core focus is managing the financial and operational foundations of the franchise—optimising costs, supporting resource allocation, tracking business performance, and ensuring readiness for new hires across London, Frankfurt, and Paris. The role demands strong commercial judgement, familiarity with credit markets, and the ability to manage complex cross‑functional projects.


Key Areas of Responsibility

1. Strategic Planning & Execution

  • Support leadership in shaping and delivering the EMEA business plan.
  • Translate global credit strategy into actionable EMEA initiatives.
  • Manage the desk roadmap and revenue projections.

2. Growth & Product Expansion

  • Support launch of new credit products (cash, derivatives, structured).
  • Coordinate infrastructure, documentation, and risk setup for new products.
  • Contribute to content and client engagement strategy.

3. Technology & Electronic Trading

  • Drive enhancements to trading platforms and workflow tools.
  • Support development of electronic/algorithmic trading capabilities.
  • Ensure global alignment with New York and London product teams.

4. Sales Strategy & Performance Management

  • Build tools, analytics, and CRM processes to improve client coverage.
  • Lead revenue attribution methodology across Sales & Trading.
  • Create performance, client flow, and profitability reporting frameworks.
  • Support client/product forums and prioritisation processes.

5. Financial & Cost Management

  • Monitor and manage the cost base with a view to improving ROE.
  • Coordinate with Finance, Treasury, and Risk on resource usage and limits.
  • Support budgeting and investment business cases.

6. People & Onboarding

  • Oversee onboarding and business readiness for new front‑office staff.
  • Ensure systems, controls, and operational processes are in place.
  • Work with HR/Compliance on talent and organisational initiatives.

7. Cross‑Regional & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the New York Business Manager for global alignment.
  • Liaise with support functions to resolve issues and maintain governance.
  • Act as central coordinator for senior management reporting.

8. Change Management & Controls

  • Own booking model and trade‑flow governance for EMEA Credit.
  • Ensure controls and KPIs remain strong in partnership with control teams.
