Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an Executive Director - FX Options Trader for the Financial Markets Department (FMD) London to join our team.
This role is responsible for managing our global FX Options operation from our London office with close coordination with our option teams across the international branch network. The ED will play a key role in option structuring, market-making, client coverage, and risk management, while actively collaborating with internal stakeholders across sales, risk, operations, and eFX development.

We are currently recruiting for a newly created Option Trader position to strengthen our coverage and execution capabilities.
Position Description
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- To trade with the financial products available to Trading Group within the individual trading limits for the main purpose of managing and hedging customer positions to help achieve the budget for the group-

- Acting as Chief Dealer for the Options Desk and overseeing daily trading activities

- To manage the Options Desk and ensure sound trading practices, appropriate risk management and stable desk performance. Supervise positions, P/L and risk exposures of the Options Desk
- To deal with the Bank’s market making activities - FX Options and FX Spot
- To deal with customers’ quote requests and orders received from Customer Sales Group on financial products available
- To deal with branch orders and quoting interbank customers on financial products available
- To monitor individual trading limits, desk limits, stop-loss limits and counter-party credit limits.
- To exercise appropriate judgement and take timely action in response to market risks and liquidity risks
- To define, drive, and execute the global FX Options strategy from London, ensuring alignment across regions and consistency in business direction.

- Act as a key strategic lead for the global FX Options franchise

- To coordinate with global options teams (Asia, EMEA, Americas) to ensure consistent pricing frameworks, risk management practices, and product capabilities. Ensure a seamless global 24-hour trading model
- To provide leadership in FX Options structuring, pricing methodologies, and risk management standards across the global platform.
- To collaborate with Sales, Risk Management, and Operations globally, acting as a senior point of expertise in FX Options.

- Provide market insights, trade ideas, and strategic direction to enhance global business performance

- To comply with all regulatory policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines applicable to trading activities
- To comply with all rules, policies, guidelines, operations and procedures established in the Bank and be mindful of future regulatory developments
- To engage in the activities stipulated in the Service Level Agreements as per the discretion of the line manager
- To conduct any activities, including but not limited to, handling and/or cooperating with internal and/or external inspections and/or audits to enhance the 1st line of defence
- To provide support to the Customer Sales Group within Treasury Department
- To manage the associated desk administration and reporting accurately and efficiently
- To identify training and development opportunities and discuss them with the line manager
- To provide information to clients on SMFG products and services, including investment products, as appropriate
Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience in FX Options trading - Including management of customer positions and market making activities
- Solid knowledge of FX Spot, Forward and Options market operations - Including pricing, hedging, risk management and market conventions
- Sound understanding of market risk, liquidity risk and counterparty credit risk - operating within approved limits and risk frameworks
- Good knowledge of Money Market operations and Central Bank economic policies and operations
- Good understanding of applicable regulations and internal control requirements, including The Volcker Rule, with the ability to support the Trading Group Head in management, reporting and control-related matters
