Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an Executive Director to join our team.
As a member of the team, the ED is to originate, structure and execute securitisation transactions, both for SMBC’s own balance sheet and to be distributed in the ABS/RMBS/CMBS markets
Key responsibilities (as an Executive Director) include:

- Lead / supervise structuring and execution of securitisation mandates in EMEA and contribute to the origination of new deals
- Review new lending deals originated by the team and provide input on risk assessment / risk mitigation / structuring
- Supervise the credit approval process and credit monitoring / portfolio management
- Develop new client relationships and cover sponsors / clients from a product (Securitisation) perspective
- Cover specialised investors, alongside Fixed Income Sales & Trading, and contribute to expanding investor base
- Contribute to develop the strategy / business plan of the Structured Finance business
- Mentor junior resources
Business Area
The Securitised Products team originates, arranges, structures and places securitisation transactions for clients of the bank both for our own balance sheet as well as for distribution into the capital markets
Securitised Products include warehouse financings, bridge loans to ABS/RMBS, loan-on-loans and back-leverage that are structured as securitisations
Key Stakeholders
- External: Sponsors / Originators, Issuers, Investors, Rating Agencies, Legal Counsels, Advisors (Technical, Tax, Market, etc.), Securities Exchanges, Data Providers, Press (for approved individuals)
- Internal: SMBC BI / Europe (Management, Corporate Banking – CBD1, CBD2 – Project Finance and Emerging Markets – ISD – Structured Credit Investments – SPD – Transportation, Planning etc.), SMBC Nikko (Management, DCM, FIST, M&A, DPG, Compliance, Legal etc.), SMBC Leasing & Finance, SMBC Aviation Capital
Position Description
- Contribute to develop the strategy / business plan of the business
- Lead the origination, structuring and execution of mandates in EMEA
- Origination includes:
- Preparing client presentations (working together with the bank's corporate banking, FIG and structured credit teams) and marketing materials
- Responding to RfPs
- Participating in client meetings / pitches
- Structuring includes:
- Financial modelling
- Due diligence
- Dealing with rating agencies
- When required, speaking to institutional investors
- Execution includes:
- Reviewing legal documents (in coordination with internal legal and external counsels)
- Preparing internal memos and credit applications
- Performing profitability analysis
- Arranging roadshow logistics in conjunction with Syndicate
- Review new lending deals originated by the team and provide input on risk assessment / risk mitigation / structuring
- Contribute to relevant internal processes including MNPI notifications, market soundings, on-boarding of new clients, etc.
- Cover specialised investors and sponsors/originators and maintain relationships and direct dialogue with selected sponsors/originators, in collaboration with SMBC’s relationship managers
- Supervise the team in respect of credit monitoring, maintenance of deal databases, pitch book libraries, financial models, etc.
- Contribute to relevant internal processes including TAC, MNPI notifications, market soundings, on-boarding of new clients, etc.
- Supervise and mentor junior resources
- Self-starter, team player and flexible
- Able to work and deliver under pressure and against tight deadlines / moving targets
- Strong product understanding and experience in risk mitigation via complex structuring
- Strong interest in and understanding of financial markets, with appropriate degree to match
- Strong communication, writing and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and numerical skills (including cashflow modelling)
- Knowledge and understanding of securitisation products, clients and investor base
- Knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory requirements, and awareness of best industry practices
- Knowledge of rating methodologies/rating drivers/credit metrics
- Able to run complex projects with multiple stakeholders
