Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a AVP for our Global Transaction Banking Department to join our team. 

The AVP will support onboarding process in managing client implementation and onboarding processes, including new customer and new product setup (e.g., account opening). The role ensures smooth delivery of onboarding services, enabling business development, revenue growth, and enhanced client experience. 

Business Area

  • There are currently about 30 members in GTBD EMEA team including Planning, Sales and Product Development team.
  • The current business in EMEA is focused on predominantly on servicing Japanese multi-national corporates. However, with the recent meaningful financial investment, we are looking to improve the client proposition to all clients and expand it to non-Japanese clients.

  • Client Onboarding & Implementation
  • Assist in managing the client lifecycle from onboarding and account opening to closure and off-boarding.
  • Coordinate documentation and approvals for new accounts and products, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Track onboarding progress and escalate issues promptly to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support client pitches and internal meetings by providing onboarding and service delivery insights.

  • Operational Excellence
  • Maintain accurate records of onboarding activities and client interactions in the CRM system.
  • Review and update onboarding procedures to improve efficiency and reduce complexity.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Sales, Relationship Management, Risk, Compliance, Legal) to resolve documentation and KYC-related issues.

  • Risk & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and internal risk frameworks during onboarding.
  • Partner with compliance and risk teams to address settlement agent and correspondent bank requirements.

  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as a key liaison between clients and internal teams to deliver a seamless onboarding experience.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling Transaction Banking products during onboarding.

Position Description

The AVP will support the onboarding function by managing client implementation and onboarding activities, including new customer and product setup (such as account opening). This role ensures the seamless delivery of onboarding services, driving business development, revenue growth, and an enhanced client experience.

Stakeholders include:
Front Office Sales teams, GTBD, GTFD, OAD, OPPD and clients

Our role will enable you to:

  • Assist in the development and rollout of Transaction banking
  • Collaborate with sales teams to deliver client solutions

What will you bring to the role?

  • Proven experience in client onboarding, implementation, or operations within Transaction Banking or Corporate Banking.
  • Strong understanding of account opening processes, KYC requirements, and regulatory standards across EMEA.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and collaborate effectively across teams.

For you to succeed in the role, you’ll need to have:

  • Experience: 8–10 years in banking operations, client onboarding, or implementation (preferably in Transaction Banking).
  • Strong understanding of account opening processes, KYC, and regulatory requirements in EMEA.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and deliver under tight timelines.
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CRM tools.
