Role Summary

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Technology Lead for Risk Management Systems Vice President for our ITSD EU department to join our team.

 

 The Risk Management Systems VP is responsible for the delivery, stability and evolution of IT systems supporting the Bank’s risk management functions. The role works in close partnership with the Risk Management department to support technology change across all major risk domains, including Market, Credit, Operational and Liquidity Risk.

 

The role focuses on managing the IT change portfolio for Risk, ensuring systems and data capabilities continue to meet business, regulatory and governance requirements. It requires a strong blend of technology delivery experience and risk domain knowledge, enabling effective translation of risk requirements into technology solutions and structured change initiatives.

 

The position acts as a key interface between Risk, IT delivery teams and external vendors, ensuring risk systems are fit for purpose, well controlled and capable of supporting both day‑to‑day risk management and ongoing regulatory expectations.

 

The anticipated annual salary range for this role is 78,000 – 118,000 €, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Business Area

As regulatory expectations and risk management practices continue to evolve, the Bank requires strong ownership of the technology platforms supporting its risk framework. This role has been created to strengthen the coordination, delivery and oversight of IT change across the Risk Management landscape.

 

The position sits at the intersection of Risk and Technology, requiring a solid understanding of multiple risk types and their supporting systems, combined with hands‑on experience delivering IT change.

 

The role works alongside Risk stakeholders to prioritise initiatives, manage dependencies and ensure technology change is delivered in a controlled and transparent manner.

 

The role operates in a matrix environment, collaborating with multiple IT teams, business risk owners and third‑party providers, with a strong emphasis on portfolio tracking, delivery governance and stakeholder engagement.

Position Description

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

 

  • Supports the Risk Management function across all major risk domains, including Market, Credit, Operational and Liquidity Risk.
  • Technology landscape includes a mix of vendor and in‑house risk systems covering risk calculation, reporting, limits, data and controls.
  • Accountable for managing and coordinating the IT change portfolio for Risk Management systems.
  • Works closely with Risk stakeholders, multiple IT delivery teams and external vendors.
  • Oversees change initiatives with regulatory visibility and material impact on risk governance and reporting.
  • No direct people or budget ownership, but accountable for prioritisation, delivery tracking and change governance across the risk systems portfolio.
  • Own the delivery, stability and ongoing evolution of IT systems supporting the Bank’s Risk Management function.
  • Act as the primary IT interface for Risk Management, working closely with Risk stakeholders across Market, Credit, Operational and Liquidity Risk.
  • Manage and coordinate the IT change portfolio for Risk systems, including prioritisation, planning, dependency management and delivery tracking.
  • Translate risk management requirements into structured technology change initiatives and system enhancements
  • Coordinate delivery across internal IT teams and external vendors to ensure risk systems meet functional, data and reporting requirements.
  • Monitor delivery progress across the risk IT portfolio, providing clear status reporting on milestones, risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Identify delivery, data or system risks and ensure appropriate mitigation actions and escalations are in place
  • Support regulatory, audit and supervisory engagements by providing IT input, system documentation and delivery transparency for risk platforms
  • Ensure risk systems operate in line with internal technology standards, governance and control expectations

 

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

 

  • Extensive experience leading Technology and Cyber Risk management within a First Line of Defence function in a regulated financial services environment.Proven track record of establishing, owning and enhancing risk and control frameworks across Technology and Cyber functions.
  • Deep understanding of European regulatory requirements, including ECB, EBA, DORA and local supervisory expectations.Significant experience leading regulatory engagements, audit interactions and remediation programmes with regulators, Internal Audit and external assurance providers.
  • Strong expertise in ICT risk management, operational resilience, control effectiveness and governance frameworks.Experience driving cross-border risk initiatives and implementing consistent risk management practices across multiple legal entities and jurisdictions within EMEA.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders, executive committees and control functions, balancing regulatory expectations with business objectives.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and build consensus across Technology, Risk and Business teams.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to identify emerging risks, define risk appetite and drive continuous improvement across the technology control environment.
