Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Tax Manager - Director (f/m/d) for our Finance Team to join our team.
- Monitor tax law changes for Germany and evaluate the impact for SMBC EU and SMBC DUS. Take over an active role to implement changes in existing processes as support the design of required changes
- Design in close cooperation with Finance teams an effective New Product Process to ensure compliance with SMFG Values, Tax policies and German tax law
- Review existing and new products proposed by the business partners and assess the impact for SMBC EU and SMBC Düsseldorf branch. Support transition of any new processes as a result of New Product Process into run the bank modus.
- Support SMBC EU Head of tax by proactively seeking for technology based solutions. Ensure close cooperation with Finance Change team to improve efficiency within daily business to use resources effective – notably replace existing EUC files with more up to date technology where meaningful
- Support SMBC EU Head of Tax in preparing the annual VAT return of SMBC’ Germany’s VAT group comprising of two legal entities, monthly VAT returns and auxiliary returns.
- Review current input VAT methodology ensuring the German VAT group account for VAT efficiently and effectively
- Review outgoing invoices to customers to ensure VAT compliance
- Support E- invoicing implementation in SMBC EU & SMBC DUS ensuring efficient and effective VAT accounting
- Support SMBC EU Head of Tax in SMFG group projects
- Coordinate Policy & Procedure update within SMBC EU tax function
- Act as reliable and solution orientated business partner through internal networks and key contacts with front and back office areas in order to support them with professional tax advice
- Documenting relevant processes and procedures and maintaining policies and procedures database.
- Maintaining key relationships with External Advisors, local fiscal authority (Finanzamt), Banking peers & industry bodies (Verband der Auslandsbanken, Bundesverband deutscher Banken) and Tokyo HO
- To ensure alignment across the region in close cooperation with EMEA tax team members and Head of Tax SMBC Bank EU AG required which enables transparent and coordinated information flow
- Managing risks in all tax areas and ensure adequate communication of identified risks to senior stakeholders in close coordination with Head of of Tax & EMEA tax
- Take ownership of on-the-job training initiatives while also actively participating in external training programs to ensure up-to-date knowledge of tax law and regulatory developments
Position Description
- Stakeholder management skills and experience
- Robust and clear communication style in German and English
- 8+ years technical experience in main German tax law areas in particular VAT
- International tax experience would be valuable.
- Open to explore new technologies
- Ability to manage tax related projects
- Ability to explain technical tax knowledge to non-tax experts
- Understand complex concepts, challenge them and support to provide explanations in a clear and precise way
- Responsive, and ability to handle tight deadlines and a wide variety of technical issues.
- Preferable but not required German Tax Advisor exam
