Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an Associate for our Corporate Banking Department to join our team in Frankfurt or Düsseldorf.
As a Junior Relationship Manager you are in charge of building and maintaining commercial relationships together with a Senior Relationship Manager with large corporates headquarted in the DACH region.

Your Profile:
- Preferably apprenticeship in banking with either bachelor or master degree (or additional trainings or internships in relevant banking products or work experience in financial sector) with principle corporate finance knowledge
- Fluent spoken and written German and English required
- Team player with strong intercultural competence and excellent communication and good people skills
Business Area
The Corporate Banking Department is the principle coverage team responsible for managing business relationships with large non-Japanese corporate clients. Working closely with product experts from departments such as debt & equity capital markets, global trade finance, project and infrastructure finance as well as treasury and advisory colleagues we are striving to identify business opportunities with customers and target clients to cross-sell products and services contributing to the bank's overall success.
Job Purpose
- Support Senior RMs in developing and expanding business relationships with existing and target customers in accordance with the department's overall business strategy
- Assist in planning and prioritizing individual sales activities and actively cross-sell all available and suitable products and services of SMBC Group
- Assist in preparing customized credit & marketing plans, identify business opportunities, compile credit proposals in line with SMBC’s credit strategy
- Produce briefing memos before and call reports after client meetings, attend meetings (once appropriate), manage all additional actions required including follow-up calls and report, file and track all marketing activities and results using internal CRM systems
- Always keep informed about SMBC’s policies, rules and procedures and assume responsibility for anti-money laundering and know-your-customer procedures and relevant compliance-related matters (incl. sanctions)
- Assist with know your customer duties to analyse risks and opportunities
- Business travel with potential overnight stays
