Role Summary
The Regulatory Reporting team plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery of regulatory reports across the banking group. This includes supporting the preparation and submission of COREP, FINREP, large exposures, credit risk, resolution, and other national reporting requirements to supervisory authorities such as ECB, Deutsche Bundesbank and BaFin.
The team contributes to the integration of IFRS accounting effects into regulatory reporting, maintains the regulatory reporting environment, and assists in testing new products or regulatory changes impacting reporting obligations. Additionally, the team supports the preparation of internal KPI reports for senior management and contribute to documentation efforts, including procedure manuals and audit support.
This team works at the intersection of finance, regulation, and data, with exposure to strategic reporting processes and cross-functional collaboration.
Business Area
The SMBC EU Finance & Controls (F&C) department is responsible for all finance functions of the bank. It is divided in five teams:
- Accounting & Reporting
- Management Reporting & Product Control
- Tax
- Regulatory Reporting
- Finance Change.
The F&C department assumes responsibility for the finance activities of SMBC EU AG and SMBC Düsseldorf branch (as insourcing) and oversees the finance function of all SMBC EU branches in in Paris, Madrid, Dublin, Prague, Milan and Amsterdam.
The finance functions cover the following core responsibilities:
- Accounting & Reporting – ongoing bookkeeping & accounting, preparation of annual financial statements and coordination of external audit, compliance with accounting standards (IFRS, GGAAP/HGB), maintenance of internal control system for financial accounting, financial (non-regulatory) reporting to internal& external parties, management of IT projects, calculation of SLA charges
- Management Reporting & Product Control – ongoing monitoring of financial performance incl. lead of annual financial forecast / MYP process, development of a product control function in line with MaRisk including daily monitoring of trading result, market conformity checks of valuation and pricing,
- Tax – monitoring of changes to tax legislation, maintenance of tax compliance system, review of all tax declarations, maintenance of transfer pricing documentation, support for other teams on all tax related matters
- Regulatory Reporting – ensures compliance with all European & German regulatory & ESG reporting requirements, Coordination of ongoing prudential reportin
- Finance Change – supports the conception and implementation work of projects and has a strong focus to deliver full solutions including business, process, data and system perspective. The department is in strong contact with the business stakeholders, IT architects, the developers and the data management units.
Position Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the preparation and submission of initial COREP regulatory reports, ensuring full compliance with internal standards and external regulatory expectations.
- Transform complex regulatory outputs into clear, insightful dashboards and summaries that empower strategic decision‑making across the business.
- Monitor, validate, and correct data inputs and outputs to uphold exceptional data quality standards.
- Stay ahead of regulatory developments and assess their implications for our reporting processes, helping to maintain a compliant and future‑proof framework.
- Enable business expansion by contributing to new product and system initiatives, ensuring regulatory reporting requirements are embedded early and effectively. Support business teams in understanding regulatory key performance indicators (KPIs) for their respective segments, enabling smarter decisions and optimized use of financial resources.
- Provide responsive, solution‑oriented support on ad‑hoc queries and projects related to group regulatory reporting.
- Drive the implementation, testing, and continuous enhancement of BAIS data definitions and data delivery processes, with a focus on delivering high‑quality COREP reporting.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory authorities to guarantee the accurate and timely submission of mandatory reports.
- Investigate data discrepancies, collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine root causes, and drive meaningful corrective actions
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in Economics, Econometrics, Banking, Business Administration, Data Science, Finance, Statistics, or a closely related discipline.
- A genuine interest in the banking and financial sector, particularly in data analysis and regulatory reporting.
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn new concepts, understand complex interdependencies, and explore cross-functional topics.
- A proactive mindset with the ability to think creatively and challenge conventional approaches.
- Any prior experience in banking regulatory reporting or advisory is a strong advantage.
- The ability to grasp complex topics, critically assess them, and communicate insights clearly and precisely.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and IT skills, with a detail-oriented approach.
