We’re looking for a Regulatory Affairs Officer (Vice President) for our Regulatory Affairs Office to join our team!
Business Area
This is a unique opportunity to help shape a newly established function at the heart of SMBC EU’s regulatory transformation. You’ll work closely with European regulators and senior stakeholders across the bank in a high-impact, visible role.
Position Description
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the ECB onboarding project and managing day-to-day supervisory interactions with the ECB and SRB.
- Coordinating regulatory communications and ensuring quality assurance in reporting and deliverables.
- Acting as a liaison with national regulators and SMBC Group Regulatory Affairs.
For you to succeed in the role, you’ll need to have:
- At least 5 years of banking experience, including 2+ years in regulatory affairs or supervisory interaction.
- Strong knowledge of European and German supervisory frameworks and regulatory reporting.
- Excellent communication skills in English and the ability to work across cultures and corporate levels.
About this role:
This role supports the creation and development of SMBC EU’s Regulatory Affairs Office, a key function in preparing for and managing ECB and SRB supervision. It plays a central role in ensuring regulatory readiness, governance integration, and strategic alignment with European supervisory expectations.
Our role will enable you to:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Legal, Compliance, Planning, and Regulatory Reporting, as well as external stakeholders including the ECB, SRB, BaFin, Bundesbank, and SMBC Group Regulatory Affairs.
What will you bring to the role?
- Proven experience in regulatory affairs, supervisory interaction, or regulatory reporting.
- Strong understanding of European banking regulation and supervisory processes.
- Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships and regulatory communications.
Desirable:
- Experience working with or within the ECB or NCAs.
- Familiarity with FinRep/CoRep reporting and supervisory college coordination.
- German language skills and/or legal or compliance background.
