We’re looking for a Junior Portfolio Manager for our Specialised Product Department – Leveraged Finance, Portfolio Management Group to join our team!
This role exists to support the proactive management of the Leveraged Finance portfolio within SMBC Bank EU AG, ensuring high‑quality credit monitoring, accurate reporting, and strong client engagement. It directly contributes to the risk management, commercial development, and overall performance of the department.
Business Area
This role offers the opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio of European leveraged finance transactions within a leading international bank. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across Europe and contribute directly to new business development and portfolio growth.
Responsibilities
- Proactively managing a portfolio of European Leveraged Loans, including ongoing financial analysis, monitoring, and internal rating assessments.
- Supporting relationship development with company management teams and internal partners to identify new business opportunities.
- Preparing credit analysis and submissions for new transactions, amendments, waivers, and refinancing opportunities.
Essentials
- Strong credit and risk analysis skills with experience in European leveraged finance.
- Ability to analyse financial statements, due diligence materials and forward-looking financial data.
- Solid cash flow modelling abilities and sound working knowledge of Excel.
Position Description
Our role will enable you to
- Engage with senior internal and external stakeholders, including company management, Portfolio Management teams across Europe, and Origination & Sponsor Coverage teams.
- Build strong internal networks across Back and Middle Office teams such as Limit Control, Loans Administration, Static Data, and KYC.
- Support client discussions and contribute to new business opportunities arising from the managed portfolio.
What will you bring to the role?
- Knowledge of the European Leveraged Finance market, including trends and transaction structures.
- Experience conducting financial and credit analysis for leveraged finance transactions.
- Ability to interpret historical and forecast financial information to support credit decisions.
- Preferred: Higher Diploma, vocational qualification, or Bachelor’s degree.
Desirable:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for liaising with internal stakeholders and leading borrower discussions.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional, international teams.
