Role Summary

The Head of ECB Coordination Finance oversees the strategic development of the F&C function of SMBC EU AG and SMBC EU group including its branches & subsidiaries, specifically in light of the upcoming ECB supervision and significantly increased demands on the team on reporting outputs and governance. The focus is on the development of the finance function in line with markets expectation ensuring all external and internal requirements can be met, financial performance of the bank & group are adequately monitored and communicated to senior management and finance aspects are incorporated in the decision-making processes at bank and group level level

Position Description

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

 

•    To strategically lead, motivate and develop a professional ECB project team to ensure it meets its core functional responsibilities. In addition the ECB coordinator oversees all ECB readiness activities in the respective finance functional teams
•    Lead the ECB onboarding Finance workstream ensuring compliance with all external requirements and develop a finance function in line with market standards ensuring ECB readiness for the finance team can be confirmed. Also ensure that any risks or constraints are reported and managed in an efficient manner with appropriate headroom.
•    Oversight of ECB Finance sub working groups ensuring strategic objectives are met, properly prioritized and risk assessed
•    Support the Head of Finance with the development and implementation of the Target Operating Model for Finance including onboarding & training of new staff, talent development, oversight of branches & subsidiaries, outsourcing governance, regional cooperation and implementation of centres of excellence
•    Coordinate with all other ECB workstreams, specifically Risk&Credit Risk, IT, Data Management, ECB Onboarding (AQR, Stress Testing, Business Model Assessment)
•    Develop and Lead the SMBC EU Finance Committee ensuring appropriate governance and communication to the bank’s senior management on finance related matters
•    Drive the agenda for the ECB onboarding for finance (prudential and financial) of SMBC EU AG ensuring alignment within EMEA and SMBC group ensuring that strategic aspects are understood and considered by management and other stakeholders i.e. risk and business functions
•    Take a lead to strengthen oversight and governance for SMBC EU AG and SMBC EU group
•    To be fully engaged with local management, stakeholders and the business to ensure that F&C is a trusted, responsive and influential partner and to contribute to and/or lead where appropriate local financial planning and strategy
•    Manage further related F&C projects within EMEA and EU context.
•    Ensure insightful and accurate financial & management reporting to Senior Management
•    Oversee adequate monitoring of the performance of outsourced services relevant to the finance function, specifically for ECB 


Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications

 

•    Several years’ experience in different finance or risk roles within the financial industry, ideally in an investment bank/universal bank
•    Experience in project management and team leadership 
•    Educated to Masters level; any professional qualification is considered as a plus
•    Be able to understand complex concepts, challenge them and provide explanations in a clear and precise way
•    Strong analytical, numerical and IT skills
•    Strong understanding of financial products and investment banking
•    Expertise in accounting, financial reporting (IFRS and HGB) and prudential regulation
•    Proven track record in building relationships (both internal and external) as well as demonstrating and promoting team spirit
•    Be able to work independently
•    Demonstration of SMBC values 
•    Language skills: English business fluent
