Role Summary

 

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Credit Reviewer - Vice President (f/m/d) for our Internal Audit Department Credit Review group (IADCR) to join our team. 

 

Summary of the role:

This role supports the Credit Review Partner (CRP) in providing assurance to management that the grading / category applied to each obligor in SMBC Bank EU AG is appropriate and the Bank’s procedures have been followed. This is achieved through Continuous and Branch Credit Reviews and participation in on-site audits with the Internal Audit function. It also supports the wider EMEA Credit Review activities.

 

Candidates Requirements:

  • Credit Experience: Proven experience in credit analysis and credit risk management within major EU or international banks is essential.
  • Credit Risk Understanding: A clear understanding of the credit risk environment relevant to the business being reviewed, including complex financing, is required. A clear understanding of structured finance including Project Finance, Shipping, Aircraft Finance or Leveraged Finance.
  • Attention to Detail: Thorough attention to detail is necessary for reviewing and documenting work, interpreting findings, and identifying trends.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for efficiently completing reviews, preparing reports, documenting findings, and liaising with key stakeholders and IADCR/IADIA management.
  • IT Skills: Proficiency in IT with a data-driven approach is required.
  • Degree level Education and/or relevant professional qualifications (like ACCA, CFA, FRM).
  • Fluent English is required; German or another language is a plus.

 

 

The anticipated salary range for this role is €80,000.00 - €120,000.00, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

Business Area

 

The objective of IADCR group is to provide reasonable assurance over the credit grading process and effective management of credit risk operating within SMBC EU AG/SMBC BI/SMBC EMEA Region. IADCR review a risk-based sample of the credit monitoring applications which were conducted by Front Office (FO) and approved by the Credit Department (CD) as IADCR is part of the Bank’s Audit Department and 3rd Line of Defence (3LoD). IADCR activities include Continuous Review, Branch Credit Review, Self-Assessment (SA) Classification Review and Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) Reviews. IADCR covers all Bank products including project finance, leveraged finance, aviation and shipping.

Position Description

 

  • The IADCR Credit Reviewer is responsible for credit reviews assigned by the relevant Credit Review Partner within the budgeted timeframe. Reviews will normally relate to more complex financing including deteriorating credits. The IADCR Credit Reviewer interacts with IADCR team members and IADCR Management up to ED/MD level. This is an EMEA wide role covering: SMBC EU AG, SMBC BI, SMBC Leasing (UK) Ltd. and other SMBC Branches / Subsidiaries.
  • The IADCR Credit Reviewer has no direct reports.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting an initial review of credit applications to determine, based on the agreed sampling methodology, which application will require a Full File Review.
  • Conducting a Full File Review of assigned credit applications to ensure accuracy of the Obligor and Facility Grades as well as Borrower’s Category (if applicable).
  • Discussing issues found and raise questions with FO person in charge when clarifications are required to complete the credit reviews.
  • Discussing and agree with the Credit Review Partner Findings and Recommendations that need to be raised.
  • Submit reviews to the Credit Review Partner for approval including draft Recommendations and Other Findings. 
  • Undertaking the follow-up and closure of any Recommendations raised.
  • Completing any other ad-hoc tasks assigned by Credit Review Partner including Self-Assessment Classification Review or DCF Review.
  • Cross-training of staff across the different products / areas of expertise.
  • Leading Branch Credit Review process and IADCR’s participation in IADIA on-site as SME for Credit. 
  • The IADCR Credit Reviewer may be also asked to assist the Credit Review Partner with maintaining relationships with Senior Management (D, ED and MD level) in a nominated area of responsibility, have insight into business activities and be able to comment on key areas of risk for those business areas.
  • The IADCR Credit Reviewer will also be expected to contribute to Internal Audit Department initiatives and work collaboratively across EMEA.
