We’re looking for an Intern/Working Student (m/f/d) for our Credit Risk Management Department to join our team.
Purpose of Job
- Support the Credit Risk Management team in assessing and monitoring credit exposures.
- Assist in the preparation of credit assessments, internal documentation, and reporting.
- Contribute to ongoing projects related to regulatory compliance and risk framework enhancements.
Business Area
The Credit Risk Management Department (2LoD) is responsible for the independent assessment and oversight of credit risk across SMBC EU AG. The student intern will support the team in its day-to-day activities and strategic initiatives, working closely with Front Office, Regulatory Reporting, and IT. This role provides exposure to credit risk processes, regulatory frameworks (e.g., CRR, ECB expectations), and internal governance.

- Supports a team responsible for credit oversight across corporate and institutional portfolios.
- Interfaces with Front Office, Risk Analytics, Regulatory Reporting, and IT.
- Exposure to internal credit rating systems, risk appetite frameworks, and regulatory reporting processes.
- No budgetary responsibility or direct reports.
Position Description
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Assist in the review and analysis of financial statements and credit risk profiles.
- Support the preparation of internal credit memos and risk assessments.
- Help maintain and update credit risk databases and documentation.
- Contribute to regulatory and internal reporting processes (e.g., Pillar 1/2, IFRS 9).
- Participate in projects related to credit risk methodology, data quality, and system enhancements.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather information and support cross-functional initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Mathematics, Physics, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills; ability to interpret financial data.
- Basic understanding of credit risk concepts and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); knowledge of data tools (e.g., SQL, Python, R) is a plus.
- Fluent in English; German is an advantage.
- Team-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn in a dynamic international environment.
