We're looking for a Senior Accountant (Vice President) for our Accounting & Reporting Team within the Finance & Controls Department to join our team in Frankfurt.
This role offers the opportunity to play a key role within the finance function of a growing international banking group. Working across accounting, financial reporting, tax, and transfer pricing matters, you will contribute to the integrity of the Bank's financial information, support strategic finance initiatives, and collaborate with stakeholders across Germany, Europe, and Head Office in Japan.
About this role
The Accounting & Reporting team is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, financial reporting, accounting controls, and support for tax and regulatory obligations across SMBC EU and its European branch network. This role is critical in ensuring accurate financial reporting under German GAAP and IFRS, supporting tax compliance activities, and maintaining strong governance and control standards within the finance function.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Supporting and overseeing key accounting activities, including general ledger monitoring, reconciliations, accounting controls, and manual journal entry reviews under IFRS and German GAAP (HGB)
- Contributing to monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing activities, including consolidation entries, FX revaluations, quality reviews, and financial reporting deliverables
- Supporting tax-related activities through the preparation of data for tax calculations, VAT reporting, transfer pricing matters, and Head Office tax reporting requirements
- Preparing internal and external financial reports and supporting reporting obligations to regulators, auditors, and SMBC Head Office
- Acting as a key contact for internal and external auditors and preparing financial analyses, explanations, and supporting documentation
- Maintaining and enhancing finance procedures, controls, and documentation to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
- Providing accounting and finance expertise to business and support functions while contributing to process improvements and finance-related projects
The anticipated salary range for this role is €76,000 - €114,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.
Position Description
For you to succeed in this role
- Several years of experience in Accounting, Finance, Financial Reporting, or Tax within a financial institution, banking environment, or similar regulated organisation
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and German GAAP (HGB) accounting principles and financial reporting requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related discipline; professional qualifications would be advantageous
- Experience supporting tax, VAT, transfer pricing, audit, or financial reporting activities
- Business fluent German and English

- Knowledge of finance systems, reporting tools, and data analysis solutions used within large financial institutions
