Role Summary
The Technology Delivery Manager is responsible for all elements of the project management lifecycle related to IT systems.
This includes, but is not limited to, budget, resource, schedule, risks and issues management. The incumbent runs project meetings, supports management of stakeholders, reports on project status, reporting on scrum teams and escalates to management as appropriate. Due to the nature of work, the incumbent is often required to manage against tight time pressures, complex regulatory or market requirements and unclear business objectives. Reporting to the Head of ITSD EMEA Data Platforms, the role requires constant communication with external and intra-group outsourcing partners, in particular SMBC New York, JRI America and JRI Europe.
Working within the Strategic Technology Delivery team, this role with be responsible for support the delivery of IT change for the Banks strategic programmes across the EMEA region. Working closely with each of the IT teams and functions, the role will require engagement with senior management and key stakeholders.
Background
The newly created EMEA Data & Analytics Technology team has been put in place to deliver data integration, reporting, and analytics services to the SMBC EMEA business. It exists within the wider ITSD department that is responsible for all IT delivery to the SMBC EMEA enterprise.
The team deliver data and analytics solutions to FO P&L business lines, cross business line departments (e.g. Finance, Risk, Operations, etc), and the Data Office as a key client. This is within a complex systems environment which has been built over several years and is looking to be re-architected for the next phase of SMBC EMEA growth.
- Will be working in team of ~50 IT staff within a department of 250+
- Will deliver robust, reliable, performant, and maintainable components of the Data Platform for use across the SMBC EMEA entity covering capital markets and corporate banking activities.
Position Description
The roles will oversee the planning, execution and delivery of multiple key programmes ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope and within budget.
Responsibilities include:
1. Project Management and Reporting
- Manage multiple IT projects simultaneously, ensuring on-time delivery and within budget.
- Define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business objectives.
- Manage project plans and timelines, working with resource owners to allocate resources effectively.
- Monitor project progress, manage risks, and take corrective actions as needed.
2. Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact between the IT team and business stakeholders.
- Communicate project status, issues, and solutions effectively to all stakeholders.
- Facilitate collaboration between cross-functional teams, including developers, testers, and business analysts.
3. Delivery Assurance
- Implement best practices and standards in project management, development, and testing.
- Conduct regular reviews, retrospectives, and lessons learned to improve future project delivery.
4. Resource & Vendor Management:
- Manage internal and external resources, including third-party vendors and contractors.
- Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships to ensure service delivery.
- Process contracts through SMBC governance processes.
- Optimize resource utilization and ensure the team has the necessary tools and skills.
5. Risk & Issue Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues proactively.
- Develop contingency plans and respond to project challenges with effective solutions.
6. Financial Management:
- Manage project budgets and ensure financials are in alignment with overall business plans.
- Track project costs and ensure effective utilization of resources to meet financial targets.
- Take budget requests through SMBC governance processes.
7. Reporting & Documentation:
- Provide regular updates on project status, including spend v budget, progress reports, performance metrics, and project dashboards.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, meeting minutes, and risk logs.
Experience and Skills
Education & Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent working experience.
- PMI, Prince2 or similar certification in project management or equivalent working experience
Knowledge & Experience:
- Demonstrable expertise in a project management role, delivering technical (data) solutions in large or medium sized enterprises.
- Experience of working in an Agile operating model (Scrum, Kanban, Scrum of Scrums), using JIRA for backlog management.
- Experience in working with a complex matrix of business SMEs & IT teams.
- Good Knowledge of the MS-Office suite including MS Project experience.
- Ability to analyse and describe a 'problem' simply and clearly.
- Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
- Well organised and structured in work output.
