Role Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Business Analyst to join EMEA Data Platform Team.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in regulatory change, data analysis, and technology-driven solution design, with a proven track record of delivering complex initiatives in a fast-paced, environment.
This role requires a understanding of the investment banking landscape, particularly within the UK and European regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCA, PRA, ECB).
The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders across business, operations, compliance, and technology to drive strategic change and ensure regulatory compliance.
Background
The newly created EMEA Data & Analytics Technology team has been put in place to deliver data integration, reporting, and analytics services to the SMBC EMEA business. It exists within the wider ITSD department that is responsible for all IT delivery to the SMBC EMEA enterprise.
The team deliver data and analytics solutions to FO P&L business lines, cross business line departments (e.g. Finance, Risk, Operations, etc), and the Data Office as a key client. This is within a complex systems environment which has been built over several years and is looking to be re-architected for the next phase of SMBC EMEA growth.
- Will be working in team of 40-50 IT staff within a department of 250+
- Will deliver robust, reliable, performant, and maintainable components of the Data Platform for use across the SMBC EMEA entity covering capital markets and corporate banking activities.
Position Description
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications and user stories (in JIRA), across regulatory, operational, and technology-driven initiatives
- Partner with stakeholders to define scope, objectives, and success criteria for projects.
- Conduct impact assessments and gap analyses for new or changing regulations (e.g., MiFID II, EMIR, SFDR).
- Perform detailed data analysis to support decision-making, root cause analysis, and reporting.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure accurate implementation of business requirements.
- Support testing, validation, and user acceptance processes.
- Contribute to project governance, status reporting, and stakeholder communication.
Experience and Skills
Education & Qualifications:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent working experience.
- 10+ years of experience as a Business Analyst within investment banking or capital markets.
- Knowledge of UK and/or European regulatory frameworks (e.g., FCA, ESMA, MiFID II, EMIR), especially around ECB coverage.
- Proven experience working on regulatory change and compliance-driven initiatives.
- Advanced data analysis skills, including:
- Advanced Excel (e.g., pivot tables, Power Query, VBA a plus)
- SQL for querying and analysing large datasets
- Experience with formal software development lifecycles (Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid).
- Experience with project management tools (e.g., JIRA, MS Project).
- Proficiency in tools such as Confluence, Visio
