Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for an experienced Infrastructure Automation Engineer (Vice President) to join our Platform Engineering team!

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role and be at the centre of implementing strategic change within the SMBC Infrastructure department.

 

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing automation solutions to streamline infrastructure deployment, configuration, and management across hybrid environments.
  • Developing and maintaining Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or PowerShell to ensure consistency, scalability, and compliance.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines, improve operational efficiency, and support platform reliability and resilience.

 

For you to succeed in the role, you’ll need to have:

  • Extensive experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar, and strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Deep understanding of infrastructure architecture and automation across on-premises and cloud environments (e.g. Azure, AWS, VMware).
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead automation initiatives and work effectively across engineering, operations, and security teams.

Position Description

This role has been created to drive the automation and modernisation of infrastructure services, enabling greater efficiency, scalability, and consistency across the organisation’s hybrid IT environment. It plays a key role in reducing manual effort, improving deployment speed, and enhancing system reliability. The role will work closely with stakeholders including infrastructure and platform teams, DevOps engineers, application owners, and security teams.

This role will sit within Sumitomo Mitsui Finance Dublin Limited (SMFD), a wholly owned subsidiary of SMBC.  It was established in 1989 and is now located in contemporary offices in the heart of Dublin’s Georgian quarter. It is a Centre of Excellence for SMBC’s business in Europe, Middle East & Africa and provides a growing range of intra-group services across a variety of Control and Support functions.

 

This role will enable you to:

  • Design, build, and maintain infrastructure automation solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools.
  • Develop and maintain reusable automation scripts and modules to support provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of infrastructure components.
  • Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and support the delivery of scalable, secure, and compliant infrastructure services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify automation opportunities and implement best practices across environments.
  • Contribute to the development of standards, documentation, and governance for infrastructure automation.

 

What will you bring to the role?

  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g. Terraform, Ansible) and scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure architecture across on-premises and cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, VMware).
  • Experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines and working in DevOps or agile environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and mentor others.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience with containerisation and orchestration tools (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with GitOps practices and tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g. HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate, Microsoft Azure Administrator, AWS SysOps Administrator).
