Role Summary
Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Security Automation Assurance Engineer for our Security Architecture & Engineering team.
The Security Automation Assurance Engineer is responsible for the automated translation of security standards to security control configuration to provide assurance that controls are operating effectively. A key focus is on building automated, scalable security solutions that reduce friction and empower the business to innovate confidently—while safeguarding the Bank’s assets, data, and customers,
Responsibilites:
- Design and implement security automation assurance solutions to mitigate security risks and improve existing system interactions across product and infrastructure teams.
- Manage security policy through automation and Infrastructure/Policy as code.
- Act as a senior point of contact within the team, providing guidance and fostering talent of junior colleagues.
- Develop written processes, clear documentation and knowledge sharing presentations to enhance productivity, cross skills and single points of failure throughout the team.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of Information Security principles. Such as network, Infrastructure and Endpoint security principles.
- Experience operating security controls across a variety of domains.
- Proficiency in scripting technologies for task automation. Such as, but not necessarily limited to, Powershell, Python, Bash etc.
- Experience of working with Infrastructure as Code.
- Knowledge of how Policy as Code concepts that can be leveraged to drive automation and efficiencies.
- Lead proof-of-concept and proof-of-value initiatives to validate new security automation and integration approaches.
- Knowledge of DevSecOps, in terms of people process and culture.
- Experience of building pipelines for delivery of technology.
- Stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.

Position Description
The Security Automation Assurance Engineer is a technical resource within IT responsible for translating security control configuration assurance to security standards, with a particular priority placed upon building automation solutions instead of processing change, and ascertaining assurance, programmatically wherever possible. This position is critical to the core business functions of the Bank, it requires a strong and broad technical skillset, exemplary communication skills and the capacity to effectively balance technical delivery of strategic project requirements with operational priorities as a senior member of the team.
The role involves a large amount of collaboration and communication at all levels throughout the wider business on a global scale to not only safeguard confidential data but provide a platform to enable the business to function. If security systems suffer from service outages, all teams throughout the bank are at risk of potential impact, therefore uptime of responsible systems to enable secure business operations is of upmost priority.
