Role Summary
The Trade Finance Application Support Associate is responsible for providing level 1 (L1) support for Trade Finance applications and tools that are being used by SMBC Trade Finance Operations and the Global Trade Finance Department. The role requires a foundational experience in financial systems and a strong interest in Financial Services technology.
Activities include:
- Application Support
- Case management:
- Case logging
- Triage of issues/cases
- Case/Issue analysis and resolution
- Escalation

This is a role that will provide the ideal candidate with a strong core IT skills and experience that could form the foundation of a rewarding career in Technology in the Banking and Financial Services industry.
The SMBC Trade Finance business users are reliant on technology i.e. Business Applications, Tools and Solutions in order to support the Trade Finance products that SMBC is offering it’s clients.
Position Description
- Provide Level 1 support for onboarded Trade Finance Applications (including issue logging, initial troubleshooting and escalation).
- Assist in monitoring system health and performance metrics.
- Support end users with functional queries and basic technical issues.
- Document incidents, resolutions and contribute to the knowledge base.
- Participate in testing activities for upgrades, patches and new features.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand business requirements and system workflows.
- Help maintain system configurations and user access controls.
Skill, Experience and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in application support or financial systems.
- Basic understanding of Trade Finance
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with Eximbills or similar Trade Finance transaction booking systems.
- Exposure to SQL and scripting languages.
- Experience with ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, JIRA).
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and support workflows.
- Interest in developing technical skills and growing within the trade finance technology space.
