Who we are
Sumitomo Mitsui Finance Dublin Limited (SMFD) is a wholly owned subsidiary of SMBC and is growing rapidly as a Centre of Excellence for the bank’s universal banking business across EMEA. It provides a range of technology and operational support services, aligned to SMBC’s growth, innovation, and transformation strategies
Role Summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Architecture & Engineering function at a pivotal stage in SMBC EMEA's technology transformation journey.
The Cloud Engineering Team is responsible for designing, building, and operating a secure, resilient, and compliant Azure cloud platform to support SMBC’s EMEA technology strategy within a regulated banking environment. The team plays a central role in enabling cloud adoption, platform modernisation, automation, and engineering best practices, while delivering scalable, reliable, and secure technology capabilities that support strategic business and technology objectives across the region.
This hands-on role will help shape the best-in-class cloud foundation that enables both cloud-native development and the migration and modernisation of existing applications, while adhering to regulatory expectations, internal risk frameworks, and enterprise governance standards.
The role will ensure that security, control, and operational resilience are embedded by design through an “everything-as-code” approach, delivering a platform that meets the highest standards of auditability, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
The anticipated salary range for this role is €72,000 - €134,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.
Background and Organizational Context
The EMEA Architecture & Engineering domain provides the core technology foundations and architectural oversight that enable the wider organization to adopt to operate effectively and achieve its strategic objectives. By defining standards, governing solution design, and promoting best practices, the department ensures a consistent, scalable, and resilient technology landscape. It works closely with regional and global stakeholders to support the successful delivery of business outcomes, requiring strong cross-functional and cross-regional collaboration.
This role is well suited to individuals with a strong understanding of technology concepts, who can balance strategic awareness with practical technical delivery, and who are comfortable working across teams to influence and enable successful technology outcomes. It will appeal to those focused on delivering technology-driven initiatives who can collaborate effectively across functions and regions, including engineering solutions that can reduce the barrier to entry to cloud platforms.
