Role Summary

• Support and lead marketing activities, origination of new business, execution of transactions and providing business development support to senior bankers in delivering the team, unit and department’s budget and objectives.
• The role requires commercial judgment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage tight timelines. It involves reviewing and preparing client financial statements analysis, preparing pitchbooks/termsheets/info memos, running various profitability scenarios/models, reviewing transaction documentation, managing internal business reporting requirements  while maintaining close coordination with risk, legal, and compliance functions
  
  
  

Business Area

• The role sits within the CIB META - Middle East Coverage Team reporting to the Head of the Team
• The role is principally to support senior bankers on origination and execution activities, both on pitching/analysis and administration tasks and taking lead on selective client accounts
• There is a customer facing element to the role, including gathering information (KYC, DD etc) and attending customer meetings with senior bankers, marketing and supporting the transaction execution team
• Internally, the role would interface with various other departments including portfolio management and Credit and to colleagues in CIB and with other regions.

Position Description

• Originate and lead deals with a focus on the Corporates segment, and provide business development support to the head of the team and support the department’s budget objectives
• The role requires an understanding of the Middle East Corporates clients, markets, key sectors and SMBC product sets applicable across CIB to specific client segment for cross-sell
• Internally, the role would interface with various other departments in EMEA, Branches across the regions and other global divisions to colleagues in CIB, Capital Markets and other SMFG entities
• The role requires good knowledge of Corporate Finance theory, practice, documentation and execution. .
• Main interfaces/relationships are with:
  • Middle East Corporates
  • Front Office Teams and department members up to GM level
  • Credit department, loans admin, CPD, legal, other departments (CBD1 &2, GTFD, SPD etc), OAD, DCM and Derivatives, LCM, TD etc in EMEA
  • Other EMEA and regional offices
  • Customers (financial and industrial equity), other banks and financial institutions, DFIs & ECAs lawyers, accountants, specialist engineers, insurance advisors, public sector up to national government level
• It would be expected that the role would work on originating and supporting multiple new transactions each year with some lead roles
