Role Summary
- The role of VP exists to primarily support and lead marketing activities, origination of new business, execution of transactions and providing strategic and business development support to senior bankers in delivering the team, unit and department’s budget and objectives.
- The role requires strong communication skills as there will be various interfaces both within the wider SMBC organisation locally (marketing & support departments), across EMEA and globally as well as externally including client facing dealing including marketing
- The role also requires strong analytical skills and will involve the review and analysis of information including customer financial statements, corporate financial models, due diligence and legal documentation
Business Area
- The role sits within the Middle East Coverage Team reporting to the Head of the Team
- The role is principally to support senior bankers on origination and execution activities, both on pitching/analysis and administration tasks and taking lead on selective client accounts
- There is a customer facing element to the role, including gathering information (KYC, DD etc) and attending customer meetings with senior bankers, marketing and supporting the transaction execution team
- Internally, the role would interface with various other departments including portfolio management and Credit and to colleagues in CIB and with other regions.
Position Description
Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Build and maintain client relationships in the FI, NBFI and SWF space, taking responsibility for specific client accounts
- Originate deals, manage client relationships, cross sell bank’s products and contribute the team’s budget and objectives
- Preparation of marketing materials, Term Sheets, Transaction Summary Sheets, including PPT presentations and other business initiatives
- Structure financing solutions for client base, in conjunction with product teams
- As appropriate, support the transaction execution team in preparation of live transactions
- Understand the Bank’s internal procedures and processes, and relevant regulations and compliance matters and applying them correctly and in compliance with all rules and regulations

- Attendance at borrower bank presentations financial results presentations and other market-related information functions relevant to the position
- To carry out marketing activities for the team.
- Dealing with customers for origination of regulated products including telephone and face to face meetings.
- Support Director in marketing coverage efforts to Corporate Finance clients to ensure seamless delivery of all SMBC products and effectively deliver the SMBC Universal Bank approach to the client
- Develop, enhance and maintain relationships with existing and new Clients to ensure revenue/profit targets are met/exceeded
- Preparing externally facing marketing materials in line with the guidelines and seeking compliance approval.
- Taking responsibility for a specific customer group (market, product region).
- Building relationships with internal product partners and SMBC Global network
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Strong relationship management skills demonstrating a sound understanding of the FI sector
- Significant knowledge and experience of banking products set, FI credit and documentation.
- Strong numerical and financial skills essential
- Ability to work on client pitchbooks, term sheets and other marketing material
- The ability to work on multiple tasks in parallel under pressure and to time constraints with significant changes.
- The ability to work well with colleagues in multiple roles and at most levels of seniority across EMEA and other regions.
- Education & Qualifications: Degree level (MSc., CFA preferred)
