Role Summary

  • The role of Director in ISDE supporting in covering existing Qatari client relationship management, supporting business activities, origination of new business, and providing strategic and business development support to Chief Officer of SMBC Doha and senior management in delivering department’s budget and objectives.
  • The role may require line management of junior staff and will involve the management of multiple project/deal teams of internal and external staff.
  • Manage to maintain and deepen a focal 'one point of contact' to bank’s clients in Qatar and ensure superior customer service approach to meeting their needs and requirements
  • To maintain relationships with the existing clients in Qatar as well as building new relationships with potential target clients according to bank’s operating module.
  • Externally, there will be senior level interfaces with Qatar customers and counterparties up to CFO level.
  • Internally, there will be various interfaces both within the wider SMFG organisation locally, across EMEA and globally, including branches across the regions and other global divisions and other SMFG entities including SMBC Nikko.
  • The role will be involved in supporting marketing activities under Chief Officer of Doha guidance with Qatar customers to be booked in other SMBC offices.

Business Area

  • Generally, the role would involve supporting marketing activities with Qatar customers under Chief Officer / Head of Qatar Coverage supervision to be booked in other SMBC offices by maintaining close contact with the Qatari customers, monitoring deal opportunities and arranging introductions.
  • There is a significant Qatar customer facing element to the role covering all types of customers including industry, private equity, banks and financial institutions, and government. The role is expected to have its own network of Qatar customers, advisors and other industry players.
  • Internally, the role would interface with various other departments in EMEA, Branches across the regions and other global divisions to colleagues in Nikko and other SMFG entities.

Position Description

  • To deliver to department’s budget and objectives, supporting business activities, origination of new business, and providing strategic and business development support to senior management
  • Supporting Chief Officer / Head of Qatar Coverage in establishing / maintaining strong and close relationship with SMBC’s clients in Qatar.
  • To maintain existing customer relationships and make new contacts for the purpose of information gathering.
  • To maintain and update client research files and records.
  • To keep SMBC, SMBC BI and group companies informed through gathering information concerning the organisation’s business by:
    1. Monitoring and analysing the political, economic and social situation in Qatar and then actively advising management / head of Qatar Coverage and relevant departments.
    2. Providing regular Qatari market research as well as specific information on particular industries, banks and companies.
    3. Monitoring and analysing any change in the relevant laws and regulations which may have an impact on the business of the Bank or its group companies

- Understanding the Bank’s internal procedures and processes, and relevant regulations and compliance matters and applying them correctly and in compliance with all rules and regulations and monitoring and supporting junior staff in doing so.

- A close understanding of the Bank’s cross border marketing policies into Qatar and adherence to the same
