We're looking for an Assistant Vice President for our Regulatory Affairs Department to join our team.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly established function at a key stage in SMBC Bank EU AG's development. As the bank transitions to direct supervision by the European Central Bank (ECB) and strengthens its regulatory governance framework, you will play a central role in supporting the organisation's interactions with European regulators and contributing to the ongoing development of a robust supervisory governance model.
About this role
The Regulatory Affairs Department is responsible for managing and coordinating SMBC EU's relationship with European and national regulatory authorities, including the European Central Bank (ECB), the Single Resolution Board (SRB) and National Competent Authorities. The team ensures effective supervisory engagement, promotes high-quality regulatory interactions and supports the bank in meeting its regulatory obligations as a growing European banking institution.
In this role you will be responsible for:

Playing a key role in supporting SMBC EU's transition to direct ECB supervision by coordinating onboarding activities, regulatory workstreams and interactions with supervisory authorities.

Supporting the long-term management of the ECB supervisory framework, ensuring effective coordination of regulatory engagements, supervisory priorities, follow-up actions and recurring supervisory obligations.
- Supporting the coordination and execution of day-to-day interactions with other regulatory authorities, including the SRB and National Competent Authorities.
- Managing and tracking regulatory requests, supervisory enquiries, deliverables and reporting obligations to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- Coordinating internal stakeholders across Risk, Finance, Compliance, Regulatory Reporting and business functions to support regulatory engagements and supervisory exercises.
- Supporting regulatory inspections, stress testing exercises, questionnaires and other ad hoc supervisory initiatives.
- Contributing to the department's quality assurance and gatekeeper responsibilities for regulatory communications, ensuring consistency, accuracy and professionalism in interactions with regulators.
- Monitoring regulatory developments and supporting regulatory horizon scanning activities to help assess potential impacts on the bank.
- Preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials, analyses and management information for senior stakeholders, including members of the Executive Board.
The anticipated salary range for this role is €66,000 - €99,000, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.
Profile Description
For you to succeed in this role
- University degree in Law, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience within banking, regulatory affairs, compliance, risk management, regulatory reporting or another regulated financial services environment.
- Understanding of European banking regulation and supervisory frameworks, with knowledge of ECB, SRB or National Competent Authority interactions considered advantageous.
- Experience coordinating deliverables across multiple stakeholders and managing deadlines within a complex organisational environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to produce professional reports, presentations and regulatory documentation.

Desirable
- Previous experience supporting interactions with banking regulators such as the ECB, SRB, BaFin, Bundesbank or other supervisory authorities.
- Knowledge of Regulatory Reporting, Risk Management, Compliance, Finance or Data Governance frameworks within a banking environment.
- Experience supporting regulatory inspections, supervisory reviews, stress testing exercises or similar regulatory programmes.
- German language skills or proficiency in an additional European language.
