Role Summary

 

Is the next step in your career at SMBC Group EMEA? We’re looking for a Business Application Support Specialist - Assistant Vice President (f/m/d) for our IT & Security Department to join our team. 

 

This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the onboarding, maintenance, and ongoing support of internal bank applications while ensuring their stability, scalability and continuous improvement across SMBC Bank EU AG and its branches. It serves multiple stakeholders, including internal business units and regulated entities, to ensure a resilient and compliant technical environment aligned with the Bank’s internal standards and strategic objectives.

 

All activities must be delivered in strict adherence to the regulatory framework applicable to the Bank, including but not limited to ECB requirements, DORA, PSD2/3, EU AI Act, EBA ICT guidelines, GDPR and local regulatory requirements well as internal policies and technical standards driven by business and customer needs.

 

The role requires strong communication skills, with a high level of accuracy and clarity when coordinating with vendors and external partners. It also demands close collaboration with internal stakeholders and cross-border teams across key locations such as United Kingdom, North America, Tokyo and other EMEA branches, ensuring effective alignment on system onboarding, operational support and future scaling initiatives.

 

 

The anticipated salary range for this role is €60,000.00 - €104,000.00, with the final offer determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, role scope, location, and relevant market factors. In addition to base salary, the role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive award and a competitive benefits package, including core benefits such as pension provision.

 

Business Area

 
The IT & Security Department (ITSD) at SMBC Bank EU AG is responsible for the secure, stable and compliant operation of IT services across its European entities. ITSD ensures the availability of business-critical applications and IT infrastructure, including networks and workplace services. Acting as a key interface between business units, internal IT teams and external providers, the department oversees application support, IT infrastructure operations, incident and change management as well as vendor coordination. ITSD plays a central role in maintaining operational resilience and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements such as ECB and DORA.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

 

•    Support the onboarding, maintenance and continuous improvement of internal bank systems and ECB-relevant applications across SMBC Bank EU AG and its branches.
•    Provide day-to-day IT support and coordination, ensuring incidents, service requests and escalations are managed efficiently to maintain service continuity and user satisfaction.
•    Act as a key liaison between business stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors, supporting business-critical applications (e.g. CMS platforms) and ensuring effective issue resolution and delivery.
•    Contribute to the planning, scaling, and lifecycle management of applications, including upgrades, releases, and decommissioning, in line with business and regulatory requirements.
•    Ensure systems operate in a stable, resilient, and secure manner, supporting monitoring, business continuity and disaster recovery activities.
•    Maintain compliance with internal policies and applicable regulatory frameworks, including ECB, DORA, PSD2/3, EU AI Act, EBA ICT guidelines and GDPR.
•    Support cross-border collaboration and vendor management, ensuring alignment, performance oversight, and adherence to outsourcing requirements.
•    Contribute to IT governance, cost awareness, and continuous improvement initiatives, while providing flexibility for critical support activities outside standard hours when required.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications

 

•    Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across business units, IT teams and external vendors, ensuring timely escalation and resolution in a regulated environment.
•    Solid understanding of application onboarding, lifecycle management and support processes, including release management, upgrades and scaling of banking applications (e.g. CMS applications).
•    Good knowledge of core IT infrastructure and underlying technologies (e.g. Windows environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP), with the ability to understand dependencies between infrastructure and applications.
•    Experience with IT service management (ITIL framework), including incident, problem and change management, combined with practical use of ticketing systems (e.g. ServiceNow) and ownership of issues through to resolution.
•    Ability to support business-critical systems in a regulated banking environment, ensuring stability, availability and performance in line with internal standards and SLAs.
•    Analytical mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities, identify root causes and contribute to continuous improvement and system optimisation.
•    Commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing, particularly in relation to regulatory developments, banking applications and evolving IT standards.
•    Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-border teams to ensure consistent service delivery.
